In 2019 I tried a simple-reversible tote bag on my sewing machine.

The most basic design: A boxed-bottom base, simple straps, no pockets, but it had lining, which made it reversible & topstitching which made it fancy! That’s it! So cute, functional and people liked it!

They bought what I made, I enjoyed creating it; I had to keep sewing, it was a simple start, just for fun & creativity.

I had to bring them to the market to see who besides my workmates like them and I had to add more patterns, for some pockets, zippers, snaps and rivets. I had to teach myself how to make different patterns and discover best sellers!

Customers taught me that I could continue to grow as a maker and a company.

At the end of 2022, the business was 8 months old when I created the first made-to-order bag. A tote with an inset zipper and 3 pockets.

I’d created a waxed canvas totes with zipper and snap closures, leather riveted handles and duffle bags and backpacks by then, but this customer requested a ‘smaller sized’ tote in the same fabric as the very large

‘BIG Shopper’ that I had on display.

I had an order form ready ( my goal for 2022 was to make-to-order), She requested fabric and color selections which set me in motion to search a pattern for the smaller size.

I created a sample tote to test the pattern and carry the same bag today!

It was so cute, I actually kept it for myself (test bags usually are not sold, but gifted).

With new confidence after completing the sample, I went to work on hers. In the first quarter of 2023 I made & sold 14. It quickly became a best seller and remains one of my favorite bags to jump-start some action after a sewing break.

It’s my go-to bag to make when I need inspiration or to get out of a slow-sew period.

For just 2 years, I sold in Artisan and Farmer’s markets and made many friends and customers, what a great time!

It’s a good time in 2024 to be opening up shop online to reach you!

It’s great to be online to meet new bag-loving customers while sharing sewing tips and skills in my community too!

For this reason, in 2025, I think we need a shared space!

I am going to share Make ROOM to Sew for those who would like to get started on some basics, build skills or just need a space and time to get-together to sew projects to completion.
